acid rain is rainwater that contains sulpuric acid or nitric acid. suplur dioxide is a poisonous choking gas. it irrtates eyes and attcks lungs. can lead to bronchitis. it dissolves in water to give suplurous acid, which in the presence of oxygen, is oxidised to sulpuric acid.

acid rain react with metals and carbonates in marble and limestone, damaging metal bridges and stone buildings. when the pH level in lakes is less than 4, fish and other aquatic animals will be endangered.. Acidic rainwater also leaches much nutrients from the soil.
